COMMUNITY SERVICE

As part of our mission, our wrestling club will proactively participate and promote community service in the River Falls area.  Wrestling is not only a sport but a way of life and an attitude that recognizes that there are those that have greater needs than you.

Often a helping hand, a little sweat or some encouragement can go a long way in our effort to stay plugged in to our generous community.  If you like, our work can remain anonymous.

If you are in our area and have a need, please feel free to let us know; we will consider any opportunity to help.  Contact any board member or coach.

River Falls Wrestling Scholarship

The River Falls Boosters Wrestling Club is proud to announce the annual River Falls Educational Wrestling Scholarship.  Application deadline is determined by the high school guidance office.

The scholarship program started with in-kind donation at David Amdahl's coaching retirement from River Falls.  The scholarship program has developed to reward student athletes who have been committed and dedicated to the sport of wrestling at River Falls High School.  Scholarships will be awarded to a graduating wrestler, statistician or manager who will be pursuing post high school education at an accredited college, junior college or vocational-technical program.

In addition, a military scholarship has been set up for those that choose military service.  Once scholarships are awarded they are guaranteed.  The award itself is presented at the end-of-season wrestling banquet.  Future scholarships will be reviewed on an annual basis.

If you wish to contribute to the scholarship fund, please send a note to the board president.

Honoring Military Families

Our Special Guests at All Home Dual Meets

When: Junior Varsity 18:15 / Varsity Begins 19:00
Where: River Falls High School

Cost: None. Just check in at cashier and identify yourself.
Why: We would like a chance to say “thank you” for what you do.

River Falls is fortunate to be the home of the Army National Guard Company D, 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry. The booster club cordially invites any military service member and their family to this season’s home high school wrestling dual meets.  Junior Varsity action starts about 6:15 (depending on the number of matches); Varsity starts at 7:00 PM sharp each night at the River Falls High School Gym.  The booster club, the River Falls High School and the coaching staff would like to take a moment to thank you and acknowledge your family, your commitment and your efforts to do what you likely call routine. You deserve the highest acknowledgement and recognition of not only the wrestling club and the wrestling fans - but also the entire community. It is our honor to provide you and your family a great evening of entertainment; watching a group of high school kids pours their heart and soul into an athletic event. We would like you to be our guests and have a great evening with us. We highly encourage you to wear your uniforms or some identifying clothing so everyone can see how many of you attend. Please also bring your family and children to this event. There is no admission cost for you and / or your family. Stop at the admissions window and indicate you are military and we will take care of the rest.

Sharing Families Project / "Adopt a Family"

December 2010

A few of the board members have been active with this program for the last few years and with that, The River Falls Wrestling Booster Club participated by anonymously sponsoring a family of five and did a small part to help provide for one the many families in need during the Christmas season.  Although we will never meet the recipients, the board truly treasured the opportunity to participate in this program.  Sharing Families organization is a nonprofit service supervised by a volunteer board of directors.  For those interested, additional monetary donations may be mailed to Sharing Families, P.O. Box 701, River Falls, WI 54022, dropped off at a participating bank or brought to the River Falls Journal office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays.  The Sharing Families program’s goal is to help 50 families in the River Falls School District by providing them with extra food, warm new clothing and Christmas gifts for the kids.

Walk On Therapeutic Project

Thursday, August 6, 2009

After the club donated $300 for materials, Jack Cudd coordinated a group of wrestlers, booster club members and other volunteers for a paver / patio project at Walk On Therapeutic Riding Program for the Giske Family.  This was completed in only one day rather than the expected three.  Fantastic job!

Food Shelf Drive at First Home Meet in December

This year we started a tradition during our home opener in December.  We collected lots of food which was combined with the food drive at the high school to make a donation to the local food shelf.  We are fortunate in our lives and we feel that we should do what we can to truly give help to those that need it most, especially during the Christmas and holiday season.
