ABOUT US

River Falls Wrestling is an official USA Wrestling sanctioned club.

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering, promoting and encouraging the sport of wrestling among parents, youth, alumni and the River Falls area community; to supervise, sponsor and financially assist a disciplined and competitive wrestling program - it is our greatest intention to build character, physical health and well-being, sportsmanship, self-confidence, self-esteem, and positive attitudes about dedication, persistence, community service, and hard work among the younger generation – through wrestling.

Best Practices Provisions & Guidelines

History

Since 1974 we have been the springboard for hundreds of kids who eventually participated at the highest levels of high school and college wrestling achievements.  These young men and women all went on to be fine contributing and productive neighbors of our society.  Most will tell you that the lessons learned  around the mat have transcended sports and applied very well to their own life experiences.  Our legacy and reputation as an extremely good program is not accidental.  Many individuals continually work selflessly to maintain and continually improve our program, make our communications more effective and adhere to our core mission and purposes.

Purpose

In addition to our mission, we have also quantified and truly considered our purpose as an organization.

1. Make the wrestling experience enjoyable, educational, and enriching.

2. Establish and conduct a wrestling club for young people regardless of their socio-economic status.

3. Develop champions both on and off the mat, a champion is one who lives by high ideals, knows how to set realistic goals, and to dedicate them toward achieving them.

4. Conduct tournaments, competitions and clinics for wrestlers and coaches.

5. Allow wrestlers to attend wrestling camps, clinics, competitions and tournaments in other geographic areas.

6. Assist wrestlers in obtaining USA Wrestling membership cards to allow them to participate in various wrestling events.

7. Adhere to the compliance of USA Wrestling in order to maintain the sanctioning of USA Wrestling.

8. Promote and assist with the WWF Division 8 regional youth tournament in order to finance the activities of the Club.

9. Assist individual Club members in attending and in competing in regional, national and international wrestling events.

10. Encourage parents and fans to volunteer their time to assist in the conduct of various wrestling events.

11. Disseminate information about wrestling events and activities to wrestlers, coaches, parents and fans.

12. Disseminate information to the public about the sport of wrestling.

13. Enhance and support media coverage of wrestling events.

14. Conduct ourselves (athletes, board, coaches, and staff), actively promote and represent our program in a professional and civil manner at all times.

Volunteers

Our club could not survive and flourish without the help of our dedicated families.  Our club has grown not only in number but in strength as well.  We need each parent/guardian to volunteer.  Wrestling is as much an individual sport as it is a family involved sport.

The home events above do not happen automatically.  Every event requires the help of dozens of volunteers.  It is the expectation that all board members help at all home tournaments.

As for parents, we have found that unless they are literally asked outright, people will not step forward to volunteer.  For all parents, this is your invitation to help us out.  We truly understand that are all busy; many have other children in different activities and conflicting schedules.  We all work and we all only have 24 hours in the day.

There is no experience is required to help.  Every amount of time will help.  Please inquire and have confidence that you will never be put into a situation where “you are on your own”.

If you ask any “experienced or seasoned” parent, they will likely say that the most they ever learned about the sport – happened while helping at a tournament.  Areas to help include setting up for a tournament, registration & admissions, cashier, weigh-ins, concessions, score-keepers, clock managers, table runners, clean up and many others.

None of these areas requires great skill or expertise.  They just need interested persons to be there.

Thank you to all those that continue to help us out!
